Step-by-step Life Map creation
Hello :)
Issue Number: #059 Date: 29 February 2024 Reading Time: 4 minutes
|
Greetings, fellow travellers on the path of self-discovery and growth,
|
Today, we embark on a deeply practical journey: Crafting a LifeMap. This isn't just any plan; it's your personal blueprint for making your dreams come to life. Before we dive deep into each step in the coming weeks, let's get a bird's-eye view of how to create your very own LifeMap.
|
The Foundation: Understanding the Six Life Areas
The basis for your LifeMap are the Six Life Areas divided into two categories: the Environment areas and the Tree areas. Let’s make a quick recap.
|
Environment Areas: Mindset, Planning, and Action
- Soil and Nutrition (Your Mindset): Your mindset is the fertile ground from which all growth springs. It encompasses your beliefs, attitudes, and the mental frameworks that shape your perception of the world and yourself.
- Garden & Landscape (Your Realm): This area represents the tangible manifestation of your mindset. It includes your goals, the environment you cultivate around yourself, and the physical actions you take towards realising your vision.
- Weather and Seasons (Your Resilience): Resilience is your ability to weather life's unpredictabilities. Developing resilience means preparing for and adapting to the ever-changing conditions of your journey.
Tree Areas: Evaluation and Clarity
- Roots (Your Welfare): The roots symbolise your well-being. Regularly tending to your physical, emotional, and spiritual health ensures a strong foundation for growth.
- Trunk and Branches (Your Resources): This area focuses on the efficient management of your resources—time, energy, finances—supporting your life's endeavours.
- Crown (Your Impact): The crown represents your interactions with the world. It's about the relationships you nurture, the work you do, and the legacy you wish to leave behind.
Crafting Your LifeMap: A Step-by-Step Guide
Creating a LifeMap means taking a good look at where you are now and where you want to go. It's about setting goals that feel right and true to you. Here's how we can start:
|
1. Know Where You Stand
First up, let's talk about you. Remember those values and personas we chatted about before? Like how I talked about being an Explorer, Creator, or a Pillar of Community? It's time to bring them back into the conversation. Your personas help you figure out what's really important to you and how you want to show up in the world. Think about how they show up in your life right now and how you want them to shine brighter in the future. They will help you to see the gap between your current reality and your desired future.
|
2. Dream Big (DON’T Keep It Real!)
Now, let your imagination run wild! What does your ideal life look like? Use your personas and values as your guiding stars. This is your chance to dream about the best version of your life, where you're doing what you love, feeling great, and making a difference. You can use meditation to envision the perfect day of your life. Don’t forget to write it all down. We often forget about our dreams when pressured in day-to-day life. Don’t let your monkey brain stop you from dreaming.
|
3. Set Goals That Get You Moving
Goals are the steps to make your dream life real. But we're not just talking about any goals. We're talking about:
|
- SMART Goals (the clear and doable ones)
- MoonShots (the big, scary dreams)
- No-Go(als) (what you're not going to do)
- Habit Goals (the small daily actions)
For example, if you're dreaming of a healthier you, a MoonShots might be running a marathon, while a SMART goal is to jog three times a week. A No-Go(al) could be saying no to junk food, and a habit goal is cooking healthy meals at home.
|
4. It's All About the Doing
Here's the secret sauce: focus on what you're going to do, not just the finish line. Planning what you'll do regularly (e.g., "I will meditate for 10 minutes daily") brings better results than planning what you want to achieve (e.g., "I want to be less stressed").
|
5. Make It a Habit
Last but not least, let's make these actions a regular part of your day. Just like brushing your teeth, let's find simple habits that help you move closer to your dream life, bit by bit. Habits are the backbone of lasting change. It's the daily actions that really count. Like choosing to walk instead of taking the car, or picking water over soda. These choices add up and make a big difference.
|
Start with habits that are easy to integrate into your daily life and build from there.
|
6. Reflect and Adjust
Use the feedback from the Tree areas to evaluate your progress. Are you nurturing your well-being? Are you managing your resources effectively? Is your impact aligning with your vision? Adjust your LifeMap based on these reflections.
|
This tailored approach ensures your LifeMap is not just a plan but a living document that evolves with you, guiding your journey toward an authentic and fulfilling life.
|
It’s Time To Be YOU!
Remember, crafting your LifeMap is about making your dream life a reality, one step at a time. It’s based on the things that energise YOU, things YOU value, and things YOU are here for. As you grow and evolve, so will your LifeMap. This journey is not about reaching a destination. Your LifeMap is a living document, a reflection of who you are and into whom you are growing.
|
Starting next week, we'll dive deeper into each step, breaking them down into bite-sized pieces. We're in this together, and I can't wait to see where this journey takes us.
|
So grab a cup of your favourite drink, and let's get planning!
