The Power of Small Steps
Sometimes, it can be tough to decide what to do next. Especially if you have a 'grand vision' for your life.
You know, that dream you always talk about "One day I will... (buy a house, write a book, travel to..., insert your own 'one-day-I-will' thing"
The problem is that it is too easy to feel overwhelmed by it. It seems so compelling and so complex. You don't even know where to start.
But today, I want to share a simple truth that can make all the difference:
Instead of getting lost in the vastness of your dream focus on the next move, the next step forward.
Planting Seeds of Progress
Imagine your dream as a magnificent tree - tall, majestic, and awe-inspiring.
This is the result you crave.
But remember, even the mightiest oak starts as a tiny acorn. You don't need to know how to grow the entire tree right now; you only need to plant the seed and nurture it daily.
The Power of Monthly Focus
I have a grand vision for the Tree of Life Quest.
I envision it as a trusted, comprehensive go-to resource for those seeking an authentic, fulfilling, and purpose-driven life. But if I dwelled on all the tasks and thousands of articles needed, I'd be paralyzed by the enormity of it all.
So, I've learned the art of breaking it down.
Monthly Overview, Daily Progress
Every month, I set a main focus area.
This is not a goal. It doesn't involve specific achievements or accomplishments. And it certainly doesn't mean that I only focus on this area.
The monthly focus area aligns with the overarching vision and sets the focus on what I will improve during the next month. During that month, all other areas are in maintenance mode.
Personal example: For September, my main focus was: "Clear the vision". I realised, that I am too scattered in so many directions and my actions do not fully complement each other. In fact, they even clashed against each other. Thus creating a unifying overarching vision will enable me to simplify the content structure of the website, making it more accessible to my intended audience.
With the focus area set, each day I ask myself, 'What can I do today to improve this area, to bring that a little bit closer?'
This is the crucial part. Don't think about the ways to reach the dream. Instead, ask yourself 'What one action can improve your chances of reaching that dream of yours?'
Personal example: The result of many small steps I took is a clear vision of what the Tree of Life Quest is about, what is my motivation behind it, how I will bring it to life and what impact it will have on it's users and the world. If you would like to check it out, it's published on My Vision page
It's like building a bridge, one sturdy brick at a time, knowing that each brick you lay contributes to crossing the vast river ahead.
Shifting Focus from Impossible to Possible
By concentrating on what I can do now, I prevent myself from being overwhelmed by the 'impossible.' Instead, I embrace the 'possible' and the 'easy to do' tasks.
It's like a puzzle; you start with the edges and slowly fill in the middle.
It takes time and patience. Sometimes, you pick a piece which you cannot place. When that happens, you don't throw it away; you put it aside for the time being and try to place another piece. And you return to the previous one sometime later. Each piece matters.
The same goes for your dream. If you cannot do something today, if that piece you picked up doesn't fit in the puzzle of your life right now, just put it aside for the time being. Look for the piece you can place now.
Growing Your Tree of Life
Remember, even the tallest trees start as fragile saplings.
Focus on what's within your reach today and nurture it. That ensures steady progress toward your ultimate goal.
Your dream may be vast, but it's made up of countless manageable steps.
Questions for You
1. What's your grand vision, your mighty tree? 2. Can you select one area to focus on this month? 3. What's one thing you can do today to improve that area?
My tip today:
Don't put things in a 'one-day' basket.
If you have something you dream about, set an area you would focus on this month to bring that dream a little closer to reality. Each day ask yourself what you can do today. Take that small step, and watch your Tree of Life grow.
Wishing you boundless growth and success on your journey,
Have a great week and see you next Thursday.
