I broke my website. And it's a good thing I did.
This past week has been really busy.
I'm finalising the edits for my book. After reading it several times, I've found ways to make it clearer and easier to follow. It's taking longer than I thought, but it'll be worth it in the end.
I'm also including new features like downloadable templates and a step-by-step summary of what to do.
Oh, and there's a slight change to the title.
The book will now be titled "How to Live the Life You Love," not just "Live the Life You Love." It has something to do with marketing and capturing the target audience. So I've been told.
At the same time, I've been working on my membership website.
When I need a break from writing, I turn to the site for a change of pace. I tried a new membership software on the website because the membership plugin I used before didn't offer some features which I wanted to add.
The new plugin was on sale with a great lifetime deal, so I decided to try it out. Unfortunately, after spending hours setting it up, I realised it lacked one key feature essential for my site. So, I uninstalled it, requested a refund, and went back to the old plugin.
The problem was that the missing features in the old software were just bells and whistles, while the new one didn't have core functionalities I needed.
Now, why is breaking the website a good thing?
It taught me an incredible amount about maintaining and running successful membership sites in the past few days. I have gained new insights and skills, which I wouldn't have if I wouldn't try to do it.
It may take a few more days to restore everything, but there's a silver lining—I now have a fully fledged roadmap for the setup and a future development of the membership perks. It includes detailed plans on how I will be able to support the learning and growth of those who will join our Walled Garden Community.
Here are my 2 tips for today:
1) When something is missing, ask yourself if it is essential or just an extra.
Often, we overlook or discard things that truly matter, only to realise their importance once they're gone. The experience with the website reminded me of this principle.
Before you exchange something, ask yourself what is the most important thing about it? And you might end up realising that actually it is better to keep and improve what you already have.
2) Take failures as chances to learn and improve.
When you try new things, mistakes are inevitable. Only by accepting them as part of the process can you create something amazing.
When things don't go as planned, the experience and knowledge gained are invaluable. The key is to learn, make changes, and try again with a new approach.
I wish you many 'happy' failures because they bring you closer to what you want to achieve. Each stumble helps you understand the path better.
Thank you for reading, and see you next Tuesday.
