Are you ready for rainy days? #086
Life has seasons, storms, and sunny days.
One of the biggest mistakes we make is thinking we can have only sunny days. "I just want to be happy," is not going to work. We need rainy days too, to keep our tree of life growing.
I can promise you, there will be storms in your life.
Rain will fall on your parade, and hail will damage your crops. These are parts of life. You cannot avoid them, you can only prepare for them. But not just for the bad things.
There are good things too. We must be prepared for those as well. When opportunities arise, we need to be ready to seize them.
Both, the bad and the good, come in the form of seasons and weather.
What are the seasons?
Jim Rohn describes four seasons that always come around:
- Winter: This is the season to prepare for spring. You live of the last harvest, rest and repair. This is the time to self-examine, fix what's broken, and get ready for planting. You strengthen yourself, gain knowledge, and improve.
- Spring: When the spring comes, new opportunities arise. You have to take advantage of this short time window when you can plant for next harvest. You work tirelessly, planting as many seeds as possible. Without planting in spring, there is no harvest in autumn.
This time involves hard work without immediate reward.
- Summer: The heat of summer makes you tired. It's a time when excitement of new opportunities wears of and the boredom of mundane tasks sets in. Now, you need to protect everything you've planted from drought, pests, and storms.
That's the moment people who never finish what they started abandon their crop and let it die. They are not prepared for boredom and repetition. But you will be prepared. You will know that this is the season to safeguard your efforts while still awaiting rewards.
- Autumn: It's harvest time. Now is the time to reap what you have sown; collect the rewards of your hard work. When the first harvest comes, we tend to get excited. But that is not the time to celebrate. Not yet.
It's time to buckle down and work tirelessly until all the crop is in the barn. Remember, Thanksgiving comes when everything is safely stored. That's the time to stop and celebrate. When the harvest comes, learn to reap without apology if you did well and without excuses if you didn't.
Each season has its challenges and opportunities. Preparing for them ensures you can handle whatever comes your way.
Weather
Apart from the seasons there is also the weather.
During each season, there are days with ups and downs. Sometimes it will hail on your crop, and sometimes there will be sunny days.
The storms can come as the death of loved ones, illness, breakup, or loss of a job—these are experiences that can torn your life to pieces, if you are not prepared. Your supplies have to be ready and you need to know what you will do when—not if!—they will come.
There are many good events too. For example, the birth of a child, a wedding, a new job, achieving a goal or the start of a business. When they come, you enjoy them to the brim and capture their essence. Preserving these moments will brighten your days when the going will get tough.
Tip for today:
Understanding the weather and seasons of life gives you an advantage.
When you learn to recognise different seasons and different weather in your life, you can take advantage of the situation.
Whatever may come, you are ready to deal with it, take advantage of opportunities and withstand the whirlwinds.
That’s all for today. Thank you for reading, and see you next Tuesday.
